Born and raised in Western Pennsylvania, Dr. Ryan Rupert graduated from Keystone High School in Knox, PA. After high school, Dr. Rupert attended Washington & Jefferson College where he graduated cum laude and earned a Bachelor’s degree in cellular and molecular biology.
Dr. Rupert’s interest in dentistry first arose because of extensive dental work he underwent while in high school and college. He wanted to bring his personal understanding to the field so he could help other people in the same situation.
“I was congenitally missing ten teeth, and I had to go through two rounds of braces and get six dental implants by my freshman year of college,” Dr. Rupert says. Although Dr. Rupert initially entertained the thought of becoming a medical doctor, one day, during a regular visit, his childhood dentist suggested he become a dentist and, as Dr. Rupert says, “a light went on.” He began shadowing his dentist to learn more about the field and soon knew it was his calling.
His excellent performance as an undergraduate student allowed him to earn a professional dental scholarship to the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Dental Medicine. Dr. Rupert earned his DMD and received the Gilbert N. Robin Continuing Education Scholarship Award which is presented to “a graduating student who has demonstrated dedication in the quest for continuing professional excellence.”
Following his schooling, Dr. Rupert completed an elective one year General Practice Residency at Allegheny General to further his knowledge and skills prior to entering private practice.
Despite the enormity of running his own practice, Dr. Rupert has not sacrificed continuing education. His pursuit of dental excellence has led to him to be recognized with his FAGD, a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, which requires three years of AGD membership and more than 500 hours of continuing education. Only seven percent of all dentists attain this recognition.
On a personal note, Dr. Rupert and his wife have been married since August of 2013. They have 3 beautiful children; a daughter Emery, born in 2016, a son Penn born in 2019, and another daughter Linden born in 2021. In his free time Dr. Rupert enjoys spending time with his family, exercising, golfing, and being a fan of Pittsburgh Sports.
